Baby Hat and Scarf

Baby Hat and Scarf

My baby boy needed a new hat and scarf set to suit his wardrobe.

So this is a quick tutorial on how I made the hat:

Baby Hat for about 43 cm/17 inches circumference

DK yarn in two colors (each less than 50 g)
5.00 mm/H hook

Note: Ch-2 at beginning of row does not count as stitch. You don’t need to cut yarn after finishing one stripe, just drop it and take it again when you need it.

In first color
ch 26
Row 1: hdc in 3rd ch from hook, hdc across (24 sts)
Row 2: ch 2, turn, hdc across in BLO, changing to second color in last st
Row 3: ch 2, turn, hdc across
Row 4: ch 2, turn, hdc across in BLO, changing to first color in last st
Row 5 – row 44: repeat row 3 and 4 until you have 22 stripes, FO, leave a long tail for sewing

Now you work on the side where you carried the yarn to the next stripe. I find it handy to use a tunisian hook, but you can take any hook as long as it has no handle. You pull up a loop trough each end of the stripes. You should have 22 loops on your hook at the end, YO and pull through all loops, ch 1 and FO. Now close the open side and weave in all ends. Done!

Now … the matching scarf is pretty simple. Worked 73 fdc and changed the color for each row, 5 rows in total. I recommend making the scarf a little bit longer.
